SDFS maintains an "Experts in Residence" program to provide its clinicians regular access to influential and skilled forensic mental health practitioners. Their consultation provides invaluable insights, real-world experiences, and ongoing mentorship. The “Experts in Residence” program plays a pivotal role in ensuring SDFS clinicians incorporate best practices and lessons learned to best serve our clients and community. SDFS is beyond grateful to have Dr. Michael Childs join our consulting team.
Michael Childs, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and longstanding member AFCC and past member of MAGAL and APA. He is now semi-retired. He has worked extensively with high conflict post separation and divorced families, both as a GAL Category E investigator and a therapist in reunification and other post-divorce adjustment cases. He has testified regularly as both a fact and expert witness. Dr. Childs trained in child clinical psychology, including work on children’s friendships, childhood loneliness, and the effects of divorce on children. He attended Dartmouth College, the University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Medical School, and integrates his background in child-focused family assessment and therapy with his forensic work. Dr. Childs is also trained in mediation by John Fiske and Diane Neumann and completed certification in child and family forensics through William James College. He devotes his spare time to his family - including four grandchildren - and a long history of trail-running and mindfulness training.
